Sun Style Wing Chun is a modern adaptation of the traditional Wing Chun system, founded by Grandmaster Sun Duk-hyun. While rooted in the traditional Wing Chun’s philosophy of efficiency, economy of motion, and centerline theory, Sun Style Wing Chun places a stronger emphasis on fluid movement, adaptability, and practical self-defense techniques. It is known for its direct, no-nonsense approach to combat, focusing on using quick, decisive strikes to neutralize an opponent’s attacks while maintaining control and structure.

One of the hallmarks of Sun Style Wing Chun is its emphasis on strong stances and solid footwork. Students learn to develop a stable base from which they can launch rapid strikes and deflections. The system uses a unique combination of linear and circular movements to maintain a constant flow of energy, allowing practitioners to respond to attacks with speed and precision. The Sun Style also incorporates elements of sensitivity training, such as Chi Sau (sticky hands), which helps practitioners develop a heightened awareness of their opponent’s intentions and actions. This aspect of the art trains the practitioner to feel and control the force of an incoming attack, allowing for smoother and more effective counterattacks. Another distinguishing feature of Sun Style Wing Chun is its practical focus on self-defense in real-world scenarios.

Our program teaches traditional Wing Chun forms and develops attributes such as fitness, speed, timing, and the ability to read an opponent’s actions, which are key components of effective self-defense. Body conditioning and physical fitness are practiced in every class through the use of stance sitting, animal flow exercises, and stamina training exercises. Our program also incorporates Qi Gong and emphasizes mental discipline and awareness, encouraging practitioners to remain calm and focused during both training and in real-world situations.
